Sarah-Jayne Boudreau

Sarah-Jayne was born in the Isles of Scilly, a small group of islands just off the Cornish coast in southwest England.

With ancestors ranging from sea captains, wreckers and fishermen, it was natural that she should be born with seafaring blood in her veins.

In the early 1990’s, in search of adventure, Sarah-Jayne quit her London-based job and embarked on a four-month sailing adventure to the Caribbean. There, she met her future husband, Lou, who was based in St. Lucia at the time and captain of the brig Unicorn.

After a few years roaming the world’s oceans aboard large sailing yachts, Sarah-Jayne and Lou set up home in Lou’s birthplace in Canada, where they now live with their two lovely children, Jason and Hannah and write stories based on their seagoing experiences and adventures.

The inspiration for Jake and the Magic Telescope stemmed from the old ship’s telescope, which her grandfather, Captain Joseph Reseigh, MBE, used in the early part of the 20th century, when he was master of the RMS Scillonian, the locally famous ship connecting the Isles of Scilly with mainland Britain. This telescope, a family heirloom, now sits proudly in the family home beneath one of the many ship models built by Lou.
